Grand Standard Bearer walks 17.5miles
for
The British Heart Foundation.
17th November 2013

After his triple heart by-pass operation(15th March 2013) and while in the  'Intensive Care Unit' at Manchester Royal Infirmary W.Bro.G.Bailey made a promise (to himself) that as soon as he was fit enough, he would do some walks for the British Heart Foundation and Help the Heroes.
His rehabilitation started very slowly as he was far weaker than he ever expected.
At the end of April 2013 he attended the Physiotherapy Department at Tameside Hospital commencing a course of 16 sessions. Following the completion of that course the NHS Foundation Trust offered a further 12 weeks of exercise sessions at the Sports Trust (local gyms) which are supervised by specialist instructors.

This has been now extended by a further three months, all of which come  at a reduced rate. Fantastic after care by the NHS. Over and above these sessions he has done a number of walks in North Wales and round his home town of Audenshaw.

On Sunday 17th November 2013 he took on the High Peak Winter Hike 17.5 miles, organised by the British Heart Foundation. The weather was kind, although cloudy, it didn't rain on the several hundred participants.
It took 5hrs 15mins with two stops of 10 mins.

The reason he decided to take on this challenge was to help heart patients of all ages, and for the scientists to find new and better treatments for people with heart diseases plus developing new ways to better prevent or diagnose it.
He has been given a further extension of life and hopes to do the same for someone else.
